Meaning
"The little girl with the matchsticks") is a short story by Danish poet

This
is a sad yet satisfying story that should be seen by everyone. We all
have our hopes and dreams. This little girl in the flickering light of a
single match sees wonderful and beautiful things. But then - she dies
... frozen to death beneath someone's parapace.
Her
Grandmama then comes to find her then and taking her wizened hand in
her young one they walk towards and fade into the snow, both spirit into
the infinite joy of the beyond.
A very beautiful and tearful film that I wholeheartedly recommend in these quiet and cold times. A must watch.

Hans Christian Anderson was a fire storyteller, but he was a Dane. THey tend to see the darker side of life. Must be all that snow.

I remember a time Rose and me were waiting for a bus and it was really coming down. She said she felt cold and awful. Finally the bus arrived and it was warm inside.
Being homeless in the snow must be a terrible thing.

I'm sure being homeless is terrible anywhere. In San Anonio, when it snows the city shuts down...

The driver cracked his whip motioning the horses forward and looking behind me I saw her. So I said, "Wait !" The carriage stopped. My sister, younger than me in this dream asked what it was. I looked back and thought I saw a golden glow, her striking a match against the far wall.
But I could not meet her eyes, either mine or hers were cloudy, one or the other. I shook my head, "'Tis nothing I suppose. Drive on."
The driver urged the horses forward again and there was the sound of ice graining against the rims of the carriage, lulling me to relax.
I got tired and stretched my back in the carriage to get more comfortable. I could hardly keep my eyes open now. My 'sister' looked over me, "Tired ? Sleep then. Sleep forever." and - I guess I fell asleep, my head reeling back until it was under the carriage, under the snow, under - everything. And that's when I woke up.
I'm pretty sure I was supposed to learn something from this dream.
