What happened today ?
I wrote a new chapter for Campfire Tales found [HERE]. JED, a VERY GOOD and longtime friend of mine joined Writer's Cafe ! Loretta came to visit me today so I got my allowance a day early and I can get that new 1TB drive now. Rose called me several times today to tell me what was happening in the news and the government shutdown.
I finished watching the last episode of Bobby's World today during break (one episode a day), so tomorrow I'll start with Thundarr The Barbarian.
Tomorrow I will also write up a new short funny silly story about a DRAGON and a PRINCESS ! Saturday's Surprise ? Well, if you've been keeping up in the comments you will know what it is !
And yep, every time you see a new chapter in here, it means I've logged out for the day (or am working towards it).
If we learn from our mistakes, then why are we always so afraid to make them ?

Firstly, I must acknowledge the welcome I received from you, my friend. Thank you for making me feel at home already :)
As I contemplate your PTP, I will say that from a work point of view, a company that encourages risk-taking should also be willing to let people learn from their mistakes.
I think this applies on a personal level. When we are not afraid to hold back in fear of making the wrong turn in life, we are free to grasp that little bit further.
I'd say that past experiences of being "burned" after taking a risk leaves your sore and reticent about doing similar again. But seeing the positive outcomes and success stories of others always encourages me to try and create my own, and from my outcomes, others can be encouraged. That is motivation enough, not to be afraid.

I would like to add to your comments. I think it is not so much that we are afraid of making mistakes as it is that we are afraid of making mistakes where OTHERS can see and ridicule us for it.
I make a LOT of mistakes all the time when I'm experimenting with encoding and HTML methods. These mistakes go silently by as there is no one to criticize me for them.
However, when you make mistakes that you know will be publicly seen, it is then you are hesitant, you doubt your ability, and you don't want to go through with something on the fear of shame.
So - it is not US that is afraid of failure. It is THEM who are looking forward to it. Notta nice premise I know. :)

I can second your comments in reply, there. It certainly is that others like to highlight the mistakes of their peers in order to make their own reputation and impression look so much better.
Plus, it's far easier to criticise than compliment.
I think I've actually stopped bothering about what some people at work think of me, because I KNOW I give a lot of effort and contribution to my work and to my colleagues.
Another aspect is that, unless it needs pointing out, most people are aware of the mistakes they make and it isn't kind to constantly pick them up on every thing they do wrong. Remembering that nobody is perfect, and trying to see the motives behind a person's actions will often help to overlook any nuances, foibles or mistakes they make.
I consider a definition of friendship to be not worried about when my friends say the wrong thing, as long as they mean well, and I know they do.
