SymbolsA Poem by DustyWhat is it that makes a symbol good or bad? Where are they found? What do they really mean? The answer does not lay with me...Symbols and signs often are hard to find. Yet when you look everywhere for them, they are hard to miss. From the clouds shaped like a heart in the sky, to the engine sputtering and about to die, the world is filled with things that could be taken to mean something either way. The heart-shaped clouds could easily be thought to be a promise that this is really love. But it can just as easily be viewed as a sign that this love is construed, that when the gentlest of breezes blows one day, the two halves will part their ways. The sputtering engine, devoid of life could be mistook for a bad sign. Or it could be a message from God telling you that good will happen if you would just walk. Symbols do nothing but make us hope and despair, but without them this earth is bare. Why then, did the hangman drop his noose at sunrise, if the sun was supposed to sumbolize the return of life? Why are crickets chirping the signal that all is silent, when they are the loudest things on a summer night? Why is it good that the wind has changed, when all it does is blow another storm our way? The messages and codes enscribed in life are absolutely meaningless unless you can look at them with the right eye. © 2009 DustyAuthor's Note
