Need

Need

A Poem by Laura Ann Ford

His eyes are full of mystery, his face hardened by life’s perils

He is strong outside and in

His mind is sharp

He walks tall and straight

He does not waiver, does not fail

This is how it appears to be

In his heart, he is broken

Torn apart by memories he wished he did not have

He may try to run, go away as far as he can

Memories do not disappear just because you leave the place where they were made

They will follow you- always be with you

But still he tries to hide from his past

Only managing to damage his future

In this life, he wishes he was no longer in, he tries

He won’t give up though the pain is sharp

He lives for her only- she is his saving grace

If he only knew how she felt inside

She lives for him

Without him she would not survive

They are together, so they will continue in this never-ending cycle of need

From the outside, no one would know they are in love

In the light of day, they are enemies

But when the darkness falls they will love each other like no one else can

"Memories do not disappear just because you leave the place where they were made". How true. I also love how you ended the poem, with the view of enemies and secretive love. I like it!
