You Don't Even Try

You Don't Even Try

A Poem by Laura Ann Ford

You don’t even try to love me

You’ve torn my heart in two

I don’t want to play this game

Don’t want to follow these old rules

It’s gotten cold inside this house

Darkness even in the sunshine

Why won’t you just walk away?

Leave me broken but don’t destroy me.

You don’t even try to hold me

No comfort when I am down

You once looked at me with love

Now your eyes are dark as coals

I don’t want to live with this stranger

I’d rather just be alone

You don’t even try to make it better

In your mind I’m not even here

Not good enough for you

What the hell did I do?

To make you not want me anymore

No one else could ever love me like you

If that’s love I don’t want it

I really just don’t want it from you

How can I keep living this lie?

‘Cause God knows you don’t even try.
