before i knew you

before i knew you

A Poem by dukovan

Theres something left to do,

through a lazy afternoon.

So I string up a seat made of rope between two trees.

I close my eyes and and like a slingshot I was gone,

past the wooded plot, and through the old lawn.

Daisy picker standing nearly four foot tall,

this girl I've known five years,

barely five years old.

Less freckles, smaller trees,

watching sounds and colors swirl in the breeze ,

making efforts without reasons,

playful and free.

Theres something at any time,

and a million ways to rhyme,

ringing blue skys with the soft hum of your eyes.

This is beautiful. The third stanza caught me off guard in a wonderful way. What an awesome visual and the poem/song follows through with the feelings of reminiscence, beauty of the present moment watching her, and in the end a hope that time is always offering us something to write about and love. This is one of my favorites of yours.

Hi D. I really like the images in here. It is a little brighter than your other songs, and I say 'songs' because your poetry has a lyrical quality to it. You say you write lyrics and the song quality comes through. I can usually hear the music with them. This one is very sweet. I love the image of a little girl picking daisies, and 'the soft hum of your eyes.' And the slingshot - that is a great image. :)
