Ghost shipsA Poem by dukovanI woke up the same time as yesterday Grilling my name in the shade, got away In bits and pieces of leaves As you were before Will never be again If time can comment on the condition of sin Said "I’ll never forget to forgive" Finally a fire in me To burn off this deadwood, do you disagree? It’s sharpening teeth, This feeling to capture the flag you freed Now it breathes, a national breath A majority of one at home in your chest Trying to call them all down To report through the ages the stories we told Dog eared distracted, it’s all the same Loose ended women pulled me off the page Now I’m tell-tailing away for another day My captain righted a ship his own way Said, “this door stays locked when I’m not here” Saw the flash and the fire in the eyes of first mate Feigned for instruction fanning the flames Saw his fate in reflection and compass and fog Pried away from the door it’s a heat sink you know. Calling them down, all the stars by the names that we gave Stole away by a shoe string, a trip on a lace Tied round the moon, saw the look on her face The tide tallied lines like a ghost in the wake © 2019 dukovanReviews
