the edge of the world

the edge of the world

A Poem by dukovan

Arching your back
you're cat-like
Raising my baby hairs

Read you to sleep like you wanted
until you fell asleep, no less

The shape of your face was perfect
I know no more, no less
and you don't have to know for a while
just dream and tell me the rest

The arc of the story
your eyes flood at the same part everytime

If you'd start to believe in the edge of the world with me
all of those angels, a right angle for millions of miles

I could take my last swim
The heaviest heart could still float to the top if it wanted
Will I ever see him again?
the last of his breaths were making time last
like it was still actually worth something

Coming to terms with the past
presently minding the misaligned mast
while you straighten your spine on a yoga mat

The wave will always wave back
saying goodbye to the moon
and who I left back on land

The story has got to come back
Now I'll have to notice the plot
and actually act

The audio angels and camera angles
a beam of light and beading sweat
on the stage looking out at everyone I ever met

Your message is so nuanced, I had to read it twice to really capture where it's going. There are many interesting & unexpected twists & turns along the path this poem takes. In many places, I can relate to your ideas & at the same time, I'm amazed at how you describe things in such uninhibited terms! I'm sure there's more here that I'm not catching, but I love the way you write (((HUGS))) fondly, Margie
