For the birds, for you

For the birds, for you

A Poem by dukovan

I'm running while you climb
the basin of your peaking
and plateau
eventually, I'll fly

I was trying to be a pilot
while you were knitting scarfs
I was weaving stories of dreams with tattered ends
while you kept track of what I was saying

Always dog-eared
always dog people
always listening

You read me to sleep once or twice
The words on my face
couldn't tell if you were Wendy or not
chasing my shadow again

Taking credit for why you loved me
a simple fool
or is it a boy?

Now I'm running, because it's hard
and it gets easier the more I do it
and sometimes it gets hard again
but I keep my eyes up
give the birds my thoughts
and pray they find you

I was transfixed by this, the whole way -- mostly becuz of your artful word-crafting & partly becuz I had to really think about your whimsical statements -- what it could all mean & where it all goes. Your message is mostly clear with just the perfect amount of enigma. I love your touches of metaphor thru nature. I love the dog-lover stanza, so unexpected & heart-warming. The first stanza is my favorite, tho (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
