the hometown

the hometown

A Poem by dukovan

It'll only be a while you said
Until the clouds come home
we can't blame the weather our whole lives
making a cameo for the hometown
You can't blame your dad anymore
like waking up in a movie
drove to the soundtrack the radio made
all the way to the wake, never waking, hardly sleeping these days
I wanted to believe you
you wanted to love me
if that's good enough for now
we don't have to speak for a while
Pulling the shades down again
I'm blind man today
the blinds followed me around
talking to the walls
The day is ending for now
not that you or I know
a way we don't know
eventually finding a way out of this town
a place we can call our own
I wanted to see you again
you wanted to believe in the love you once did
but I should have told you
that it's never been the same
and looks to stay that way

as much as we wish it, nothing can happen the same way twice. There's not a word wasted in your poem, well done.
