A flake of gold rushes my mind

as I shake my head of snow,

it slivers in blazes along the sloping evergreens.

Like emergence from afar

or an emergency from within.

I know as long as you glow I glow too,

our paired eyes matching in the dark

stark and sly, leaving blazes

and remembering the cunning trail.

Impressing nature itself was the game.

The trees spoke secrets before we were convinced

but by the time we were, one of us already knew

that the wind patterns have carried us this far.
