Walk Away

Walk Away

A Poem by Dukesrunner

I walk away.

Each day I walk away,

Down the street,

Across the hall,

Along the beach,

In the sun,

To ends of earth’s I walk

Within my mind and out,

Through his head and yours,

To find answers,

To questions I haven’t yet asked.

Perhaps they are the same.

I’m anxious.

The answers are there.

The questions are there.

But sight is so far,

That mirror in the sunlight,

The tantalizing blind

That screams my name.

The sirens’ summon.

By night I answer.

No eyes watch my steps,

No walls here my gasps,

No ground catches my footfall,

And fall I do,

Head first over head,

The stumbling mad dash

Desperation to catch the question.

The answer.

But it smells pursuit,

And so the Harpies cease singing,

Their soft notes blinking out

As the stars blink in.

So many lights not enough to guide

And my stumble ends in collapse,

Lost and confused

Sight lost,

Song lost.

Sense lost.

Then the sun rises,

As I rise.

A beaten phoenix

Reluctant risen to walk again,

And feel the sun burn away its wings.

The fire shed,

Left behind,

So I may walk again,

Eager for my next attempt,

To run away,

And catch The Answer.

Author's Note

Dukesrunner
Random inspiration I had the other night. Actually, come to think of it, I wrote this after having a rather deep conversation with two pleasent girls I met for a night while on vacation. Now, I know that sounds bad, but really. A good, clean, deep conversation around the firepit one night does good for a person. Thank you Tasha and Victoria, since I doubt I'll ever meet either of you ever again.
