A New Moon Prayer: Maiden Goddess

A New Moon Prayer: Maiden Goddess

A Poem by Joli D
"

A prayer addressing the newly waxing goddess.

"

Maiden Goddess

Destroyer and planter

Silver sickle of the sky

You who now waxes in strength

     and beauty

You who are in turns mother, sister,

     and tonight daughter

I welcome you, my Lady

I praise you, I worship you

Bread on the altar

Water to fill your cup

This bread and water I share

     in your honor

I eat and drink and remember

     you my goddess

Likewise remember me

This prayer was very evocative for me. I got chills when I read, "Silver sickle in the sky." In response to MadameBlack's comment, I think that this prayer lends itself to quiet prayer, but prayer spoken aloud. I like that this would be equally appropriate for a group of one or thirteen.

That last line is particularly powerful. So glad you put this up just in time for the Wolf Moon.

A very nice prayer indeed. Just had my full moon ritual and so your writing was a must read.

I'm not much for poetry, so dont put much weight into what I have to say. I'm a big fan of rhythm and rhyme, and while I know its not necessary... I feel like the rhythm is. I can see you put obvious thought and intent into each line, but it doesnt flow well for me. Perhaps its just me!

Thanks for the read and blessings :)
