Mother of BabylonA Poem by Ryan Halterman
They call you a w***e and make you out to be trash,
The bringer of evil an unholy gash, So their holy mother can take your place, Steal your cup and make it their own, spit in your face, They call your child an unholy beast, Claim its our souls you crave to feast, They warn that when you arrive it will be the final hour, To strike fear in our hearts so they can gain power, I know the truth I have looked in your eyes, I saw the woman they buried in lies, You came to me with cup in hand and child at your side, Not some awful beast as the others all cried, It doesn't look like everything we have been taught to hold dear, And so misunderstanding breed unheeded fear, I know what it's like to be misunderstood and dragged through the dirt, I know what its like when the sight of you puts others on alert, You come to me in my loneliest time, When I feel as though I have lost my mind, When all have left, when they don't care, It's always you standing there, You lie next to me no matter where the bed, And though I have never understood a word you've said, We don't need words to create a place that's all our own, A place full of life, the most beautiful place I've ever known, And I hold it close, I keep it safe in my heart, So that you and I.....we're never apart, If the world turns ugly and I am filled with fear, I need not worry for I know you'll appear, You have no beast, you are no w***e, You are a friend I have come to adore, So when I hear venom in their voice as they speak your name, I know that the goodness they speak of and you are the same, The faces have been changed and they tossed you aside, But I know whats true, the warmth you make me feel inside, I think for myself and I will not abandon you if you're ever in need, And I'll never consume the lies they are so eager to feed, The universe loves us all the same, Even when they attach w***e to your name.
