Fictor Somniorum

Fictor Somniorum

A Poem by Dave W.
"

Dreamer of dreams.......

"
I am starved for the connection of the another starving soul,
to touch another's spirit,
to join with their heart and mind,
to joke together,
to cry together,
to embrace together.

This hunger,
this longing,
this desire dissatisfied.

I was day dreaming again about the future,
my heartache cut me to the quick,
I was happy,
I was fulfilled,
I was satisfied,
joy was the canvas this dream was painted on,
I snapped out of it,
it is dangerous to want something that is unattainable,
something so wonderful it seems possible,
yet will not happen anytime soon.

Oh foolish dreamer of mirage dreams,
why must you feed these mocking fantasies,
these images of love and peace,
just out of the touch of a fingers caress.

Oh dreamer of lovesick dreams,
awake from your deep slumber,
that future is not yours,
why would you hope for things so grand,
to be human,
to be whole,
to be content.

Oh dreamer of empty promised dreams,
did you really think any of that was yours,
did you really think something so good could be true,
foolish mortal,
awake out of these splendid reveries,
open your eyes and live in the pain of truth.

Arent we all starved of a special one connection atleast, with whom to embrace and satistfy our desires with. To feel happy, cant we dream atleast? Heart doesn’t see the dangers before it loves and may be it is foolish to persue the unattaibale . Our mind will warn and stop us. Until then can we not dream lovesick, fantasize and be joyous. Heart isn’t foolish it gives us a chance to live our fantasy. May be the truth is so painful, let heart cushion us with its pain-absorbers! Really enjoyed dear Dave!

Any poem with a Latin title is bound to get my attention! I have never been a big dreamer, day dreaming or during sleep, but it is certainly a complex state of mind that can give one a false sense of hope. We can find that overindulging can distort our reality as we grasp for things that will most probably always stay beyond our reach. That being said, I do believe that most of us have visualised a day dreamed love that wraps us in the arms of the one we most desire. Longing can be both a beautiful thing and a cause of deep heartache. And so it is in your poem. Some lovely lines here, Dave, with the ending particularly profound in its brutal realism as the dreamer is brought crashing back to Earth. Willy Wonka adds another level of intrigue, too!

Well written.❤️
