I don't like the silence Dave. I raised-up four children and I have five grandchildren. The house is silent now. When two people quit talking. John Dryden said it best. When the love is not here no-more. Time to separate. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry and your thoughts.

Interesting, how some reviewers have jumped to the conclusion that Dave was referring to a break from a romantic liaison; whilst others have kept a more open mind. It goes without saying, that Dave was also responding to a "prompt"; when he wrote this. Coyote has brought a perspective of his own too, linked with his real family background. It's generally positive to think about one another's writing, from different perspectives.

This expresses some sad feelings, of course. But, we should't really assume that it links with a romantic relationship breaking down; regarding that stage when a couple have ceased communicating with one another. After all, it could be about that "deafening silence"; which can follow the loss of communication with a best friend. I should emphasise "best" friend, because losing a best friend can hit harder; than losing contact with a casual friend. Of course, only the writer knows for sure; what inspired him to write this one. And yes, we all know that the "prompt" was Dave's primary trigger behind this one. Keep writing too..!

It can sometimes be that way, when we need silent space; to take a break and evaluate our feelings etc. So yes, we don't always need to assume that phases of "silence" are always negative for us.

I love silence because it is NOT silent, it is deafeningly loud if you listen! A couple grow close in silence and are comfortable with and in it. In such silence, one doesn't have to say anything, the words and feelings fill the silence. Lovely write, Dave. Thank you for sharing...
