Shadow Monsters

We create the monsters we fear....

Fear for the unknown,

in mind, perceived knowns,

roam in the void.

Those monsters,

with ill intent of heart,

exist from lack of knowledge,

lack of light they thrive,

slink, and slither about,

sharp claws ready to rip and tear,

shine a light and nothing is there,

such energy wasted on shadows.

Run though the house,

illuminate every corner,

darkness hides from it all,

now you know there is nothing to fear,

no monster under the bed,

only a pile of clothes.

I love how you started the poem with a dark atmosphere and gave it a fun little twist at the end! However, every line has a deeper meaning, like "lack of light they thrive", This is so eerie yet beautifully written.
