Foolish One

Foolish One

A Poem by Dave W.
"

On a scale of one to even, I just can't......

"
Can you believe I opened up,
what a fool I was.

Head on the block,
swift was the strike,
I failed,
I assumed,
I cared,
I am a stupid man.

To bear one's soul to strangers,
is brave?
is cowardly?
I don't know.

Foolish it was to trust,
like a friendly dog to the catcher,
I can't do that again.

I'll not believe the kind words spoken.

Maybe it's not fair,
to hold the rest to the place I have for that snake,
but how will I trust,
I am at a loss,
not wanting love,
not even wanting friends.

Stay at arm's length,
to get closer is a risk,
I don't want to take.

I won't be bitter,
I won't trust,
I will have to keep these feelings inside,
scream into the void,
hugging the air,
never again......

This is so sad. But I believe that we find our own tribe; our own family, in the choices of our haunts and friends. We have to reach out to touch. We have to be willing to be touched. Certainly there is treachery and betrayal in every human heart. But it doesn't always have to win. I enjoyed the read. F.
