Melancholy Holidays

Melancholy Holidays

A Poem by Dave W.
"

End of the year came to quick....

"
Isolate in evenings late,
thinking of the year gone by.

How fast October arrived,
soon leaving for Novembers throne.

Somber days, leaves amber gold,
crunch and crinkle, trees skeletons shone.

The end of things desolate, I think,
I contemplate life and lifes finale.

Nothing is wrong,
I melancholy sit,
I wonder where the year has hid itself away to.

Older but none wiser,
Thanksgiving is almost here,
soon Santa will say his ho ho ho's.

Holidays will cease, winter settles in,
mirth has come and gone,
this year is over like a beautiful song,
I hate good byes.

End of the year always gets me,
the holidays vanish in a wisp of vapor,
the highs of festivities joy fleeting,
the cycle continues,
this will not be the last time I feel this.

Gee
Aye, years roll by so quickly with winter getting us to thinking of all that has gone before and those that have passed. On the plus side the beautiful colours of dying trees is a sight to behold.
Nice poem Dave

Again Gee, thank you for the review and I guess there can beauty with change even things that die..... read more
This is lovely. I appreciate how you captured the feeling of change. While I read this: "Somber days, leaves amber gold, crunch and crinkle, trees skeletons shone." I could hear the leaves underfoot and see the barren trees swaying in the wind.

I relish the melancholy sometimes. I know that might sound weird, but slowness, calm, and pensiveness are how I reset and get ready for the next season of life.

It's a yearly thing...we think of endings....seasons, love, loss....it can be a hard season in autumn.
The trees look prettiest right before they die, just as we appreciate loved ones most when they are nearing their end.

Isn't that the truth
Your poem speaks to the seasons of the year and of life itselt. It is no wonder there is melencholy but there is joy as well in the end for the end as you said is only a circle. A most lovely and meaningful write my friend.

:), No you are!
I get sad at holidays, I have no one anymore to celebrate the holidays with. My family is deceased.
It just brings back so many memories, it makes me sad. I know this feeling.
