Flickering is art in itself: is suggestive, is temporary, is a tease - is a memory that endures because there is no alternative. Love lasts, whether one loses it or not. It leaves a mark - can be deep and hurful or deep and delightful, leaves a sense of eternity with touches of wistfulness. You have lit the flame with your words.. left something so visual, I could sob for a while, understand how it could and can be. Warmth then agonising chills.. is how it can be. Can one forget? Would one want to avoid the agony if one could know the love had never existed?

Well, that's how it is with passion. A flame that powerful can only burn so long. But if friendship survives the flameout, perhaps what is truly valuable has been saved.
Dave,
Someone once told me that if I stared into a fire I could see whole stories unfold... I was only about 8 at rhr time and stared till I was almost blind... I was much older when I figured it aout...

Your poem beautifully captures the delicate interplay of love, loss, and longing with an evocative brevity that resonates deeply. The imagery of a “faint flame flickers” sets a poignant tone from the outset, creating a vivid atmosphere where shadows come alive and memories linger in the air.
The phrase “stationary waltz” is particularly striking, as it conveys a sense of movement trapped in stillness—reflecting the bittersweet nature of reminiscing about love that once burned brightly. This metaphor effectively captures the essence of nostalgia, where passion has transformed into something more fragile and ghostly.
As the poem progresses, the juxtaposition of “ashes of passion slowly dying down” with “heart cold as ice” conveys a powerful emotional transition from warmth to desolation. The transitions you’ve created reflect the inevitable passage of time and the fading of a once-vibrant love. Your choice of words, like “lamentation” and “loss,” evokes a deep sense of sorrow and yearning that lingers with the reader.
The concluding line, “Eros last kiss,” ties the poem together beautifully, encapsulating the bittersweet essence of love's end while invoking the timeless mythological figure of Eros. It leaves the reader with a haunting sense of finality and introspection.
Thank you for sharing this poignant piece. Your ability to convey complex emotions through vivid imagery and concise language makes this poem a memorable exploration of love’s ephemeral nature.
I don't deserve this review, thank you for the kind words and insite. Hope you have a great day.

It certainly is very hard to go through a love once passionate being as cold as Antarctica...

Yes, it is difficult to continue living when love dies, but only if you choose to dwell in it, Dave. It is best to close the door on the past, move on to the present, the future will take care of itself. You have captured superbly the last embers of love dying and I love how you link it to a flickering candle! Awesome imagery within the poem. As the embers turn to ashes, love is gone and with it the past as the poet tastes one last kiss from Eros! Wonderful write, Dave. Thank you for sharing...

Most welcome always, Dave. I am well and pray you are well also. Thank you for your kind words...
I like the anagoly....alanagy.... similarities between the flame dancing to a flicker and how love goes the same way. It reminds me of a sating about a life that burns brightest lasts only half as long, something along those lines anyway.
But when both are gone, you are always left alone in the dark thinking of the brightness that once was.
Nicely captured.
