Dad

Dad

A Poem by Dave W.
"

This was the good bye I didn't get to say.....

"

No one told me goodbye would be so real,

so final,

so cruel.

You were always going to be there,

answering all my questions.

"Let me give Dad a call about this and that",

is no longer a conversation I have.

There were so many years still left to be had,

I was going to visit.

Where does guidance come from now,

the wisdom that you freely gave.

Who’s going to tell me about the next stage to being a man,

hero’s fall one by one.

I still had so much to talk about,

I still had questions,

I still needed you.

No one told me goodbye comes sooner than you think.

I too, miss my parents though they departed this world quite a long time ago and as I get older, I seem to miss them more. Your Dad, your hero has left this world, but he has NOT left you, Dave. He comes to visit you in Spirit and I feel you sense his beautiful, loving presence sometimes? We think our parents will live forever, but sadly, we are all mortal. Yes, the last goodbye is the hardest one of all to say. I never said it to my parents, I have no regrets because I know they are always with me and continue to guide me from Spirit. We are all left with some unanswered questions. A very beautiful poem dedicated to your lovely Dad in this sublime write, Dave. I feel he is very proud of you and all that you have achieved. He knows all! Excellent word choice and visual detail throughout the poem. A privilege to read! Thank you for sharing, Dave...

Hi Dave, i was elder in my family, i always took independent decisions, and told to my dad, then wherever he has contradictions he used to say why dont you do that, then i used to say daddy i like this and i am good at it, its ok fine carry on he says. But few important decisions i decided to listen to my dad where he said my engg college admission of which is not my choice, and my dad decided to accept my decision when i postponed my wedding and wanted to do higher studies, he listened to my inner cry and never said no.
Being elder it makes you to take right decisions for family and also contraducts for personal. It was mutaual we mend our ways for both and making us being happy when the world is against.
I feel for decision i never depended on my parents but never kept anything secret. The first time when i took any decision i better tell him.
But for love my parents always showered blessings with prayers to God and those were always protecting me ever. For that i am indebted to my parents who are well and happy hope i am still making them happy by praying to god for their better health.

I just want to say for decisions you have other members in family and relatives to discuss, but i feel you might be missing his adorable love on you which he gave you birth for a reason and commitment. If you could fulfill his wishes he would be glas wherever he is now and always his blessings are with you.
No matter what a dad's place no body can fill. I am so glad he made you feel so much in your writings above.
A dad is always a super hero in our life.

I am proud of you i can still see child in you making his dreams come true.

Whenever i miss my parents far from me now, i just drop my tears missing how much they cared for me in my toughest time.

We are glad we are having our beloved people around us in our hearts and around us.

And regarding the decisions to talk to him, do what your heart says and what you feel happy about and dont do something which hurts and dad will make you to do samething if he is with you now.

Hope every moment you miss him is a blessing you protecting you in every decision you make.

Thank you Dave. For sharing such a heart felt write. Just wipe your tears, i am here to make you smile no matter what i am to you.

Jessy Jacob.

Most welcome always, dear poet...
a poignant piece,
we never know the worth of things in our life until we loose them,
now we know how much they care, how important they are, and how good they use to be.
a lovely piece

Thank you for the kind words and the review.
Oh my God...I lost my dad 7 years ago. So many questions I still want to ask him. So much I want to share with him...He was almost 98 but still gone too soon...
He kept his mind almost to the end....we were miles apart in how we looked at a lot of this world, but I would give anything to have some more moments with him.
Beautiful tribute here.
