Of Burning Out

Of Burning Out

A Poem by the wretched
"

to those I've known who chose not to be here. You are not forgotten

"

regret hangs in the air,

dense and thick like smoke.

once we thought it all a joke, to die.

and now you're gone, times not stood still

even bracing 'gainst the walls can't keep them from falling in on me.

choking on desperation, scratching at the surface of these fears

i thought i knew what this felt like once

but never had i gotten so close as too close

and now that all is falling down, and smiles can't be found

the crowd surfs anxiously without expression, eager for whatever comes their way

i can't find you here, because here you are not

its been so long since i remembered

you're gone.
