Frozen Skies

Frozen Skies

A Poem by dtroosh

Broken and beaten hes ready to die
His eyes search for his last glimpse of sky
But grey is all he sees as it starts to rain
Slowly he sits up, fighting through the pain

Through torrential rain and thunder taunting him
He brings himself to his feet and surveys the world so grim
Stumbling down a well worn trail
The rain begins to turn to hail

Broken and beaten hes not ready to die
For one last time he must see the sky
This is his one final wish
The only time in his life he is selfish

Limping along being pounded by hail
This is a quest he cannot fail
His pace is steady but oh so slow
The hail stops and it starts to snow

He slips and falls, sprawled on the ground
Laid on his back, unable to make a sound
His limbs grow cold and he begins to cry
He knows never again will he see the sky

Broken and beaten about to die
He franticly searches the clouds for sky
He lays there still as his life leaves
From his chest his last breath heaves

In desperation his eyes open for an instant
The sky is there, so blue and distant
With a smile he closes his eyes
And with his dream fulfilled he slowly dies
