A Warriors CompromiseA Story by Philosophers' Dreaming
So there he was. All alone and broken, the war was over. The side of justice had prevailed over evil... He looked around where he stood on the battlefield, seeing the corpses of his fallen brothers and sisters strewn across the blood soaked ground. The *kites started to gather and began feasting on the freshly slain flesh. He fell to his knees and screamed to the heavens. "I WON THE WAR!!! BUT TO WHAT END?!? MORE DEATH AND SUFFERING FROM THE LOSS OF OUR LOVED ONES!?" Then he got real quiet... Then as if the angels themselves wept for the great city's loss, the heavens unleashed a torrential rain that started mixing into the blood stained ground. The warrior looked about the body strewn field, at the corpses with pained expressions from their last moments of life. Some of these poor souls containers still contained the objects of their demise, and yet a few still clung to what little life they had and left with one word at their lips... "A-men." The warrior took his sword and plunged it deep into the muddied ground. Forgetting his place as a king he then swore to himself as nothing more than a man, "Those who would lead a country into war without the iron in their stomach to bare the trials of war are not fit to be called king. They are as I am now. Alone and saddened from loss and heartache. No one shall remove this sword till the day a new king of pure heart can be discerned." Then he called to a scribe to write down his words as his last testimony as king. After the king had ensured that every word was as he wanted it to be remembered he called to his eldest son and queen. They rushed to his side. He took them into his arms in a final embrace and said his 'I love you's and goodbyes.' There he took out his dagger and placed on his bare chest above his heart, gave a loud cry and plunged deep into his heart. The king was dead, but would never be forgotten. His loyalty to his oath and brothers still fulfilled. The kingdom moved on slowly through time, ticking by leaving behind more memories of the recent past.
