Optimists: Watch As Grandfather Clock's Bones Turn To Dust.A Poem by Aaron Burnette
"You're wasting your time..." The words are repeated and echo... I swallow pathetic things which resemble tears. I smash an antique, red oak grandfather clock To shards, bits, and pieces; Resting my arm on the only friend I have left; Hope. God abandoned me And Gabriel lost his horn; The ivory, bone horn Sounded to announce The "Good News" to lost sheep. The wind whispers the syllables again... "You're wasting your time..." I pierce sensitive eardrums, Embracing dark deafness Like a loving mother to her crying child, And once again, set up for my next ignorant, ravishing fall. © 2008 Aaron Burnette |
