The little creative child
That was full of fun and rhymes
Was left behind
With all these tests
In math, english and science.
I’m sitting here crying
Because I’ve lost
That inspirational little child
That use to write poetry
Before she could tell you
What was two plus two
Or that everything in life is physics
Or that she wanted to be a teacher
And now I sit here
With my head in my hands
Trying to write a poem
For our drama festival
Cause my teacher says she sees
Potential in my writing
Even though
Nobody has taken the time
To teach me what is a prose,
A sonnet or a haiku.
My teachers have been too busy
Trying to make me have a perfect portfolio
And have good grades in the anual tests
We take
They even bribe us with food and candy the day of the exam
Like "here I gave you candy
So finish that test and make those people see
That I am a good teacher and you have learn something
Not that I see you doing that good its just you have to do it".
Not "why don’t you let me see you write a poem
That touches people hearts and that makes a difference?" or "why don’t you write a song or play your trumpet in a way that shows me what you have learned something in all these years in school?"
Some people do bad on test but in person are geniuses
What happen to does people
Does the genius in them get dumbed down
So that they could take tests that have nothing to do with what they are going to become in real life
And then they lose the right path to where they are suppose to go?
Some are lucky to have good teachers
That opens their eyes
To music, poetry, art, sports
And school like Taylor Mali
Or Sandra Hamlin
But some aren’t
and I was part of the latter
until I came to Hope
met the person that opened
My eyes to my talents
and begged me to listen
to that inner child
That is a inspiring poet
That gives a painful cry
And tells me it wants to be brought to the light.
Every child needs to be held in high regard
No talents should be denied
Tests don’t prove your good
They take alway from what you need
Children needs should be satisfied
When it comes to their dreams
That’s why No Child Should Be Left Behind.
