A Poem by h d e rushin

My sister banging on the door of the funeral home

to give to the funeral director a pair of socks so that the feet of her

dead niece wouldn't be cold.

Which in some tangled fantasticate

was the act of the purest of mad women.

Then I thought, this is it.

This is the great metaphor i'd hoped for/

Some among us wait a lifetime for this moment,

like Mantle explaining to the universe

the sweet spot on that Spalding "Black Betsy"

or Jordan trying to explain "the zone",

"when everything you throw in the air, just falls",

I think he said. When I was younger

and pulling the string on the "See and Say"

all it took was a gentle twist

of a sticky palm to get the same response

but for others the imagined flesh wont

speak without coaxing. Like the man with

the camera phone who captures the

last blue whale's

breach. Then drops it in the sea.

Life is so deep meaning that we just see the less of it. I love as show the pain of life, and the side of life that hurts. So is part of it. Meanwhile we have to have the best of it.

Thanks for share this deep poem. I love the scenes ans the powers of your words.

There are times when the simplest act or thought grows into something so vast that the moon swaps places with the sun! Nothing's holding still, things scientific and spiritual are just turning and twirling trying to find that Spot of being.. .. ending with a poem that holds secrets meant to be shared if not understood. Socks, an old knitted bear, a plastic bracelet, a ticket, something precious, gives meaning to a goodbye that truly means something, or a stroke of the clock that echoes until someone hears it. And once, heard, must be held onto in case it.. becomes invisible. I don't know what i really mean in the above.. but i read your words over and over and respond from the heart, right or wrong.. tis all.

We hold onto what we can.. and if for some reason, it fades into wherever doesn't really mean its gone. Does it?

I thought this was a really powerful poem. I especially like the line structures. Good Job

you in some much connective tissue address the rehearsal
the swirling quasars that tread knowledge
with that placenta imagery
supplying the offspring
that know of such things orbiting life
always on a line...excellent piece

Life is full of irony, isn't it? Moments when we think it is impossible that which is happening is actually happening...but it is...and the moment passes. Only a poet can memorialize it with words...and you have. Wonderful work, Dana. Lydi**

You're an incredibly beautiful writer...I got a very Zen feeling from this, those minutia awakenings, absolute lucidity for a fleeting moment because once it's known it is now no surprise and how everything is happenstance in one sense and totally predictable in another, just depends on your vantage...the thing is, you always make me think, no matter if it is intended or anything at all what you meant and your imagery, as I always point out, is so rich and vivid.

You are a poetess that can pinpoint an exact moment and give it life beyond what it already has. This is truly art. What your poetry is able to do I cannot to you. You have the aurora of Harlem Renaissance with the grit of Lou Reed. Don't stop.
