the acquittal

the acquittal

A Poem by h d e rushin
"

1:07 pm eastern time.

"

The afternoon O.J. Simpson was acquitted

we had lunch behind the engine house

on Ryan road.

Ham sandwiches and a

loaded potato salad that had sat

too long in the sun. Boisterous

was the throng assembled then

disassembled. All the blond,

slim white girls

in tears. Some being carried,

like me, for different reasons

to their cars.

Stanza 2 ......visceral I wanted to swat the flies...I felt the uncomfortable warmth and was left feeling the old world rabbit.

An indelible image. You leave the reader more than enough, to cobble together our own conclusions. I was never one to blame a spark for a fire, that dry tinder (a mass consciousness) had been accumulating in that shed for a long, long time. A subtle, well structured poem that opens the door for examination to our own, pre conceived notions.

Stimulating, piece.

In some cases, guilty, until proven innocent. Didn't he all but admit it later in a book? Can't be tried twice for the same crime, better get it right the first time.
