if i had a lion

if i had a lion

A Poem by h d e rushin
"

a love poem.

"

if I had a lion,

First, I wouldn't share him with

another poet

I'd let him run loose

next to a mountain/ talk,

no dance

in that familiar red lion tarantella

to those who keep

their pleasures on

full display. To those

who give such promise

to dark, inviolable trespass.

He could eat the stomachs

of those cheapened through

with promiscuous wonder/

Because I love you so very much.

And a lion will undoubetedly protect

my love from pain.

Now I'm not saying that pain ain't true

not when blood and spleen shant wash

off a well cropped mane;

this rich a thing hypothetical? The way

you scratched me, bit my shoulder

mad-love-woman. Only that

before a thing lay mortal,

the wish of the dying is to go quickly

as you stretch out,

palmes flattened, in the cool

dry tundra, zebra and amorous

can come close in those moments.

Giant ants can crawl

on me.

I like how the stylistic transition feels like the ripping of flesh
and it's too hard to distinguish the narrator from the teeth and claws of it
and the blood of the morose drips sensually down the chin
of the existential beast which tries to layer itself to my confusion
but I'm not him and I couldn't have handled the subject in a battle
or a state of meditation..not in this century at least
I've been hibernating too long, that's all I know

Oh crap, I am adoring your words (how phony is that?) - I believe in you. I am happy as only a few have made me on here (oddly, two below, in fact) - Gosh, I can hear your voice in the poem, as though I know you. What strange snow it is. Thank you for this, and for all that is to follow.

A true roar of a write. It evolves as one reads it and I will have to come back to find where every line takes me.

If I had a Lion I wouldn't want to share him either, but poets and their words are meant to be shared, and to otherwise would be a great injustice.

A truly unique poem, and a refreshing one at that. Loved every line. So much modern poetry has become boring and un-original, but this is far from both. Very well written.

and some would leave a carcass of words at the king, and some would run from the urban jungle for suburb habitats, and some would try to trap the feelings you wear in such incisors majestic garb blood soaked with a soul ready to become instinct...great piece as always.
