the wild patch

the wild patch

A Poem by h d e rushin

What earth can listen to the reading of the book,

peeked, debouched, marched out onto the open ground

like the gook, human, yet eternal, hiding in the weeds

of pink melons; who can only hear the reading of the Hueys

reiterated winds. Fourty-two years later, war is still

a book left open by the leafs of human wings.

With the slantest of eyes, reading the writing on the

helmet of the downed chopper pilot, my brother,

with ptergium growing over the flesh that healed raw things.

The son of proud parents and testament.

This poem was written for Alberts Blue Rose poetry cafe, ten lines
that include the following ten words: earth, listen, reading, book,
things, human, eyes, peeked, eternal and reiterated. It's a good exercise.

My sincere appology: the use of the word "gook" (origin unknown) is a
non-american (asian), unfettered derogatory. It's usage here is for
effect, to enunciate that period in Vietnam war history thru coloquial
American speak. In no way do I wish any race of people, who walk this
earth with me, slandered by word, idea or action. That war is over..dana.
