Great Cosmic JokeA Poem by Drowning In RealityPhoto: by J.PlanetGreat Cosmic Joke Cool air descends upon the evening Hints of autumn yet to come The earth remains green As far as the eye can see Illusion of fertility I tread upon my dreams Searching for reality’s door Often get lost within Moon shines upon my garden path Through a labyrinth of creativity The fool dances merrily Thumbing her nose at convention Fell of the cliff more times than not Never seemed to learn Laughs off the misstep and tries again I can’t foresee the morrow The sisters of fate don’t whisper their secrets Every second a fresh surprise Acceptance my mantra Easier said than done Balancing humility with pride Difficult at best Must break free of old patterns Forge ahead boldly Seeking guidance from the stars I know where I have been Wouldn’t wish that on anyone If I could change the world I would Decided to change myself instead Into what is for you to judge Buddha laughs at me heartily From behind his feathery fan Shares his joke with Krishna Who slaps Mohammed’s back playfully While Christ sings, “Catch me if you can.” I shrug and turn my back to all Reaper weighs heavy upon my shoulder Take a deep breath and sigh Too late to plant anyway Instead I look toward Spring © 2017 Drowning In Reality |
