ImpressionsA Poem by Drowning In RealityImpressions He sat alone Night after night. He saw the world Through the eyes Of the internet. His cyber companions Saw only His desire to please others His humor and grace His kindness toward those Especially to those Who could not Express themselves As easily as most He championed The underdog No one suspected He might be An underdog himself Beauteous women Vied for his online attentions Never seeing his face Never judging his appearance As his family and coworkers did Always offering dietary tips And exercise programs To make them look More like them When his heart gave out At the age of 38 It took six paramedics To get him out his door His family passed the coffin and sighed He never lived, they thought He never filled his home With children and fancy clothes He was so lonely With only a computer For companionship He was not like them Surrounded by family and friends Barbequing with the Joneses Remarking on who wore what To church that week They cried cause he was all alone Until the day he died But in the land of cyberspace When word leaked out That their friend had signed off for good Their sadness was different They felt the loss of their friend Whom they knew so well Their nightly companion Soldier for his politics Fighting oppression wherever he saw it His voice boomed For equal rights and freedom for all He offered advice to mothers After googling problems he never faced Teenagers sought romance advice As if he were the wisdom of ages Their pain could never be cried out His loss left a hole Which could never be filled That kind friend Who always wished them Love At the end of every message Each wept unashamed For the loss of the man Known to all As IAmTheWalrusCooCooCachooJ © 2013 Drowning In Reality |
