Punk

Punk

A Poem by Drowning In Reality

Punk

I remember being a punk

Within more than without

Primal scream moments

Wisdoms released

From the core

Learned from Lennon

Vibrated around me

As the table overturned

Taught me expression

Pulled me out of nightmares

Into another’s pain

Gave birth to empathy

Giggled like a virgin

Squirmed at their visions

Intellect stimulated

Began to heal

Couldn’t sustain punk

Costello warned us all

Burnout occurs

Wanted my children

To learn love

Hard from a mother

Mummified in pain

So I redefined

Did it before

Have done it since

Personalities for the taking

One with every inhale

Now I find myself alone

Listening to my heart

Find remember myself once more

Must stand tall in the face of adversity

Love and healing unites

I return from whence I came

‘Cause Patti still lights up my life
