Cold Spring

Cold Spring

A Poem by Valerie Cwiekowski
"

For the friend who leaves too soon.

"

cold spring

stuck in between

your lovely words

and yesterday's love

that never felt warm enough

to spend the night through

six in the morning

saturday becomes sunday

and you're a half a world away

when i can't tell the left

from the right of everything

you make me believe

what do you say

who do you follow

when everything you

thought you knew

was just

saturday night's mirage

late april

and dusty snow

still hugs the depths of the ground

nothing left to say

'cos you've gone along

and i've buried the past for today

'

cos tomorrow comes

and we're both somebody new

but the life you lead

i can't fall into

spring's still colder

than i thought you would be

but yesterday's love

followed me down

don't you know

my heart's still beating
