Sympathy Song

Sympathy Song

A Poem by Valerie Cwiekowski

streetlights shining bright

at 2 am

and i'm just trying to find

a way back to what i've lost again

can't count the stars

while you sing your sympathy song

to sunday morning's lonely world

softly humming to buckley's 'hallelujah'

we just can't make sense of it all

we're standing here

touch my fingertips to your lips

just a cold lover

trying to get a moment back of

what you thought

she owed you forever

can't count the stars

while you sing your sympathy song

to sunday morning's lonely world

there's no hallelujah

to thread a string of hope on

sunday morning's lonely world

her moon strains to keep daylight at bay

oh, this lonely world

trying her best to comfort those hiding in pain

from last year's love

gone wrong once again

can't count the stars

past four hundred and three

daybreak is here, and she ain't waiting

for you to realize

your heart's still beating

your heart's still beating

Author's Note

Valerie Cwiekowski
definitely the first, rough draft.
