A poem I wrote for a prompt I thought I'd share. Excerpt: Petals unhinge/ silken sheets between my thumbs/ I caress the freshly dead I’ve embezzled/ and pick at new.
A Black Rose
A shade, not a color like its kin. Black, a silhouette of a rose. A shadow. Soft and fine, as a rose should be.
But Black.
Petals unhinge, silken sheets between my thumbs. I caress the freshly dead I’ve embezzled and pick at new.
My thumbs bleed red, as they brush against a deadly thorn.
Crimson liquid emulates tears, a second there, my blood before my eyes, red upon black and then... gone.
Very melancholy, with nice description of the feel and look of the rose petals and thorns.

And pardon my grammar for using "it's" instead of "its" in my last comment, haha. It's late at night and the caffeine is running out of my system.
