Cousins

Cousins

A Poem by krissie

we used to be generous donors to toys 'r' us
your guns and robots, my barbie dolls and houses
our parents paid for the few hours of relief
we weaved stories like all children do
your robots married my dolls, i
shared my houses with your guns
the day you proposed your
mother tried to surpress her laughter
but failed, so it had seemed to me

we talked about enlightenment and chinese calligraphy
you moved on fairly quickly from one to another
you hanged a punching bag in the middle of your home
and i stood with you, trying to avoid getting hit
you taught me defense but i never made it
you made me question the future of cousins and made me despair-

too soon, perhaps
i was standing beside you on christmas day but
we barely exchanged words

and it was the third day of chinese new year yesterday but
there were no more words

I start to think of all the friends that I used to have when I was younger. What happened to them. And then I myself start to think of my cousins. It's kind of a good thing that I didn't come that close to them in the long run though. But it makes it hard to live in this world without those people that you thought would be there with you.
