Rivers and Mountains

Rivers and Mountains

A Poem by Emma Garside

Like the rivers and the mountains I feel the need to be tough.

As if the task of conquering it is nearly impossible.

To be so incredibly tough it takes hours or days to reach the end point.

I feel as if I need to be a million times stronger than I am,

like a ton of bricks or the mass of an elephant.

But everyone knows bricks are easy to demolish and an elephant is scared of a mouse.

So really is there a definition of the word strong or tough or,

has it just become a figure of our imaginations that someone can possess these qualities.

Like the rivers and the mountains I feel the need to be free.
