Lullaby

Lullaby

A Poem by dreaming dame
"

A cruel lullaby, I guess. :)

"

I will sing to you

a sweet lullaby of midnight monsters

in a voice too soft and beautiful

for you to resist.

Close your eyes and feel the room

change shape; myserious movements

are ignored but felt anyway.

`my dear child,`I start to sing

and you are tapped in the velvet cage

of my song.

You will sing in your mind,

trying to feel with the song

of midnight monsters;

who are swaying to the song;

yet gently coming closer,

descriptionless horror.

Second verse, you`re in a trance now.

You can`t fight,

those monsters starting to tear

the blanket, to shreds,

yet your eyes are locked with mine.

Slowly closing.

to the softly swinging melody.

I grin, slowly, almost cruely.

You smile, near delirium.

They reach now for the edge

of your long nightgown.

Holes in the simple cotton.

I am ending my song,

and you close your eyes,

completely enchanted.

Last note,

and they reach for your hand,

to take you away.

A sudden cold sweat,

a moment of fear.

You jerk your hand away

sitting straight up

in your bed.

Look to the side,

and see nothing

but an empty chair.

You hear a melody,

hauntingly sweet;

my lullaby.

I`ll always be there

to sing to you

in your mind.

You don`t dare sleep

in fear of the midnight monsters.

Yet you always hear this lullaby.

you become insane, delirious they say.

I put your sanity to sleep.

This is who I am,

you are who you are

because you heard my song.

You gave me a surprise with this poem. I did enjoy the deadly lullaby. I believe you can be took in by a sweet or deadly lullaby. I enjoy the flow of thoughts and the very strong ending. A excellent poem.
