Today

A Poem by Sam
"

A personal experience on ending a toxic friendship this year

"
Today is the day I fine dined
If that’s what you call eating Chef Boyarde straight out of the can
Today is the day I took a bubble bath
I even did a face mask
But today is also the day I chose to walk away

We do what we must for our own well being. Some relationships are simply not meant to be. You show both wisdom and courage here. Thank you for sharing.

toxic is bad for the emotional health...
Walking away from that is smart.
Chef Boyardee...we had an inland hurricane here back in 2009....
I ate Ravioli straight out of the can for 11 days as we had no power with which to cook.
Storms ravage, toxic relationships ravage...
and meals all feel cold. just like our hearts.

"Shalalalalala, live for today." The Grass Roots from "Let's Live for Today"

I think Chef Boyardee has two e's at the end. At any rate it's always good to rid ourselves of toxicity and purge it from our lives. Writing has a very cathartic property so conducive to healing and getting on with life. I enjoyed the read. F.

It's always that last day that's really weird and kind of screws you up a bit. Definitely relatable. Good write.

I'm reminded of a toxic friendship I ended a few years back with a friend who had a gambling problem. He would always borrow money from me and rarely ever paid any of it back. It all came to an end when a group of us made plans for a weekend across the state heading to reno. My former friend volunteered his car and 4 of us packed in a made the 6 hour trip. We got there at 7pm and hit the casino. I had only taken about 100 bucks because I'm lousy at gambling and just wanted to catch some of the shows. He had taken 2 grand with him and lost every dime within 2 hrs of us getting there. I on the other hand hit a jackpot on a slot machine and won 1200.00 which I pocketed the money and headed to watch some magic show. He ran into me and I told him that I won some cash. He than asked me if he could borrow some money and I asked how much and he said all that I won he wanted to have. It shocked the hell out of me and I asked him where was the 2 grand he brought with him. He wouldn't answer me so I said guess you don't need my money bad enough then. Me and my other two friends hung out and when we got back to the rooms we were staying at we find out our buddy took off back home abandoning us there in reno and forcing us to buy a bus tick back to calif. I didn't talk to him for 10 years. He apologized later but by then the friendship was long gone. It was sad because we grew up together and were like brothers. But that's life and you got to cut those types of toxic relationships out of your life or they would drag you down with them. No one is perfect in life but if you don't have trust in someone than you really don't have much of a friendship at all. It is a very difficult lesson to learn unfortunately.
