Stage Fright

Stage Fright

A Poem by drcornelius
"

Written as a song

"

Stage fright stage fright

Hoping I can make it

through the night

Working so hard

to get it just right

But I think I’m gonna die from

stage fright

I wrote a brand new song

It sounded just fine

Practiced it to death

Perfected every line

I’ll play it for an audience

For the first time tonite

But I know I’m gonna die from

stage fright

Got an interview tomorrow

For a job with fancy pay

Been practicing my answers

About twenty times a day

Clean suit, updated resume

Everything looks right

But I know I’m gonna die from

stage fright

Got a date this evenin’

With the woman next door

Been working on my kissing

And hour a day or more

This is our first date

But my belly feels tight

‘Cause I know I’m gonna die from

stage fright

I know that stage fright

Is not a terminal disease

Though it makes my heart beat fast

And gives me shaky knees

There aint no fixin’ to it

Not something I can fight

Just have to live and die with

Stage fright

Performance anxiety

It gets me every time

No matter how hard I prepare

How I toe the line

I know you all are with me

You understand my plight

I’m damned sure we’ve all died from

stage fright
