"Love, Your Friend"

"Love, Your Friend"

A Poem by what-the-frick

It's everything I wanted,
This feeling...
Somewhere wedged
Between acceptance,
And sweet lilacs.

Every time I backed up
You crept forward, slowly
Pricking lacerations
Into my fear,
The doubt that smothered me,
Began to regress.
Yet not soon enough.

Our sweet candy memories,
Tasted stagnant & noxious.
Too familiar.
Too broken.
I chose us, while you,
Chose yourself.

This feeling ...
Sounds a somber cadence,
Pungent of my hopes,
My promises to you,
And our friendship.
It's what I never wanted.
