A Dream of Sirens

A Dream of Sirens

A Poem by Daniel Raftery

Deceptive thoughts disguised as dreams
Reflected off broken glass from moonlight beams
A mirage in the scorching desert
Is all that lays across the landscape, all to be seen?
I have noticed you somewhere before
Lying naked near some distant shore
A voice that once sung soft, lulling tunes
Now dry and dead, wanting, nevermore
Or is it not my ears are deaf?
A voiceless sorrow, airless, choking breath
Tied to some faulty, weathered mast
Blown weary and languid, right and left
But I cannot give into such thoughts
That all I want is floating endlessly, forever lost
I must shun these fruitless dreams
Farewell fantasies; can one's mind sustain such costs?
