So brief, but oh-so-powerful! Abused in my youth, I grew up never crying for decades & decades. I could not relate to your perfectly-chosen symbol more intensely! As my tears & laughter were suspended, I also stopped dreaming while asleep. But I take your poem to refer to the kind of dreaming we do during our waking hours . . . dreams nourish, as does hope (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you, Margie. I'm sorry to hear about what you went through. Cold, troublesome world, indeed.

The opening 'Little girls who stop dreaming
become big girls who cannot cry.' is deep on many levels. It is great observation of human psychology. It is a very deep and intelligently simple poem and it is a sign of greatness when one can articulate the depth of the soul in simply terms.
Really great poem

I appreciate your insightful comment. Glad you enjoyed.
When we kill the dreams of youth. What do we become dear Diana?
"half-way here, halfway there.
Halfway to...
nowhere."
When I served in the military. I saw hopeful eyes die and never return. It is sad when we accept less. Powerful and amazing poetry shared my friend. You made the reader think and ponder.

I agree dear Diana. We must rebirth the energy of youth for us and for the people near. We need good.. read moreI agree dear Diana. We must rebirth the energy of youth for us and for the people near. We need good days and a lot of laughter.

We do indeed. May God grant us health and blessings. Seems we need a miracle nowadays...
This poem feels full of meaning and wisdom, even from a man's point of view. I'll keep this in mind if I ever have a daughter. It was also fun to read, the end made me smile. Tyfs
