When English Majors Don't Write Any More...

When English Majors Don't Write Any More...

A Poem by Diana

When English majors don't write any more,
the world still goes 'round.

The workplace still whirs
with "productivity,"
the fruits of my labor.

But writing an e-mail ain't writing,
No Sir.

No writing an e-mail ain't writing,
No Sir.

When English majors don't write any more,
the world still goes 'round.

The feeling of being a writer and either not being able to write or not wanting to write can be heart breaking. I know for myself there are times I wish to write but for whatever reason can't follow through and my world feels like it's ending because I can't get these words out, but the world is still spinning, adding more and more days full of the possibility to write

Yes, I've felt both ways, more often than I would like, as well. Thanks, Haley!

Having flopped at school, mainly by choice, folk stare at me in disbelief when they know that I try my hand at writing (to a standard that is acceptable I think)
Back in the early nineties when my wife to be lived 400 miles away we used to send each other love letters, how many do that nowadays.

Oh, how I identify with this one....I was an English Major and I don't write as much as I used to, but still the sun rises and the days pass. Emails are not the writing we remember...the writing we so loved. This one touched me, Diana. Lydi**

you bet this is true...I am an English teacher...and even among my colleagues, I find the language is just abused...careless grammatical mistakes etc...
so yes, the world still goes around...but some of us really miss actual writing...
when it was up to us to get right, not up to a spell check on a machine.
