When I was 18 or 20, I could get a job, many different jobs, with only my high school education & a little college, & I earned the same amount my dad was earning after a lifetime at his career. Now many young people have no hope of earning what their parents earn -- EVER! -- even with a college degree. Forget about perks like health coverage & 401K (retirement plans are obsolete) . . . this is a gig economy & you can't even get consistent hours from week to week. Then the older generation posts scathing commentaries about how young people are lacking motivation (your "bootstraps" remark is especially poignant). You do well to say so little & conjure so much (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

If you do research, less than half of the U.S. is now considered middle class (not sure which country you're speaking from).
yes, if those bootstraps are just a bit too short...the grades ain't quite enough....and we only earn two bucks...what then...
and yet...we can do is all we can do...and if the effort is there...we have done what we can.

Thank you. It's easy to be a bit "short," often through no fault of one's own...
