I've read a few of your poems, and I love your direct approach! I have to comment on this one in particular because of the struggle I have with poetry. I am very straightforward and literal, and when people read my poetry they find all kinds of metaphors that I didn't even know were there! As a poet who just comes out and says it more often than not, I relate to this! There, I've said it.

because poets just don't do that...we say something, but it is up to the reader to decide what he or she gets from the work...we just thrive on "indirect."

Amen. The only people who are clear and indirect...writers.
I think because some poets want to be mysterious or afraid of people's judgment. Others want it fictitious and many others want to keep anonymous. Few of the reasons I can think of. An excellent write...:)......
