Diana, you are such an insightful soul and your poetry carries wise messages. I think a lot of people choose to SAY they want to be alone because they are resigned to the fact they may never meet the perfect companion. Then again, there are those who prefer their own company to that of another person. Certainly a lot to ponder here. Lydi**

It sounds less pitiful to say you prefer your own company or like to be alone. Sometimes you have no other choice...

I had a good group of friends in college, but we've kind of gone our own ways, still friends just in different places doing different things. I feel like I've settled back into the "loner-ish" life I had before college, and not necessarily by choice.

It's difficult in today's world to keep up with friends when they are spread around geographically. Once you are out of college, everything changes.

call a person a loner and they usually get defensive..It's a bad word in the 21st century and even worst
idea during this internet age of online babble, facebook perceptions, blog posts and zygomorphic
pretend friends that an internet connection might allow. But this final stanza had me thinking
of lonliness as surrender, as giving up on the "fleeting dawn" of being or making yourself avail
to the eagerness of deceit and heartacke that comes with knowing other human beings.
