False Poets

False Poets

A Poem by Diana

You write for glory and recognition;
yet there is no feeling in your words.
You emote others' emotions,
but you do not feel.

You take up a cause
you haven't endured
and claim it for your own.

All hail: honor, glory, righteousness.

There are all kinds of wolves in sheep clothing wearing a poetic sense that there rich beyond words. There are greedy writers but blind beyond the ditch they so see. Its not about that for most of us, I love my writing to be a freewill read, allowing it to fall in a linger of breeze:) That's why I never R&R. I think all things in life should be freewilling. But oh well! I seen this not just in writers but musician as well. Powerful write Diana:)

Well said, dear poet.
Blessed are the ones who suffer and toil for the words they write.

Unfortunately, I do know poets that would fall under this category. Their poetry lacks something though, Diana. It lacks soul and it is painfully obvious. If only cliches are used and no emotion backs them up, what use is it? I tend to disregard that sort of poetry. I saw too much of it on another site where I used to post my words. The sad thing is, the poets who post that sort of drivel don't even understand others see right through them. This is wonderful, Diana! Lydi**

Thanks, Lydi. I've gotten a lot of negative feedback on this one.
Interesting - fascinating even! I write poetry because I cannot NOT write poetry - it HAS to be written to disseminate my thoughts - and feelings, if you will.....but did it start like that? I don`t know is the short answer. At nineteen, I started because I wanted to see if I COULD produce an original thought - MY original thought - poetically. Was that posturing?....I think once we expose those attempts at art to other people we, as poets, are all posturing. We cannot be judgemental of motivation. Pretentiousness is only an indication of immaturity or lack of poetic talent....and most of us suffer from that. P.

Thank you.
when i read poetry it either hits me in the gut or not...i can somehow feel the heart or lack of it...

and i do agree...if we are writing to get recognized, we most often won't be...our words will fall flat..

but if we write from the heart and guts...turn our insides out so others will see them...our work will be discovered someday...and it will matter...

i think doing this writing thing is such a blessing...

when the words aren't contrived but just pass through us somehow...the page vibrates with feeling.

I think you understood this more.
If written from a deep place, your soul or gut, all poetry is indeed that person's emotions unleashed, me thinks this is meant for someone in particular Diana.

Thank you, Frieda. Fairly general, actually.
You take up a cause
you haven't endured
and claim it for your own.

You know, Diana, you have written my one and only no-no when it comes to poetry. Without truth, poetry has no meaning. You got it.
