Too Late

Too Late

A Poem by Diana

Too Late

And it’s too late,

too late for dating sites

and casual flirtation.

Too late for:

“There’s someone for everyone.”

Too late for the men that never came.

Too late for my poor brain

to grasp these thoughts.

Head cupped in hand,

sobbing outright.

Too late for:

“You’ll find him some day.”

Mouth agape,

I try to scrape

the pieces together.

I cup the remnants in hand,

kind, grey ash,

and live one more day.

If this was autobiographical at the time I wonder how your life has changed in the seven years that have passed.
I love to read pieces that folk first posted when landing on this site, it sometimes gives clues to why they are here and also you can see the changes in them and their writing over time :))

All good points you raised. Can't say I feel too different than when I initially wrote this...

Everybody tells you the same thing, but in your own head, you can't comprehend these thoughts when you're lonely....you pen'd it so aptly. Yes, we do go on to live one more day, and repeat again.

it's never too late..but I understand...as boring as it may sound, we've all felt like this at one stage in our lives at least.....You put it over well though

I have felt this way before...felt as though there was no one out there for me to love or who would love me the way that I needed to be loved. Of course, then I found someone, and although that particular relationship did not last, it was beautiful when it was living. There is always loss, and the beauty in that tragedy is that with each loss we learn something new about ourselves that we can take with us to the next, better thing. Poignant write...I could feel ever word.

Thank you, Sarah. I like your apt description of relationships as "living."
I thought this was just another "poor me, my guy took off" poem, and then you skewered me like a hotdog and I immediately took everything back. Highly-effective, this is. Being as I have a short story with the same title, it lured me in.

Thank you. I like your description of the way you felt as you were reading.
Life may just surprise you, love waits in the strangest of places. Another nice one by you Diana.

Though no one can go back and make a new beginning, anyone can start from now and make a new ending.

Nice piece from the heart.
